January 2011

I can't believe that it's been a month since I've last posted anything. I feel bad...not  like anyone has missed me in my absence.

It's been a good month for us nothing too interesting has been going on. The only thing that has any sort of interest is that....

I know, I know I am totally lame for making a postcard about it. I'm in an Illustrator class again. Can you blame me? Plus I can add it to my portfolio. Do you like my pixelating action?

That's right. We are finally out of the old, small 2 bedroom apartment phase of our lives. We moved into a 3 bedroom townhouse. We've been there for about a month now and we LOVE it. I would do it again in a heart beat. All the packing, cleaning, lifting, and even the aching back was totally worth it. A headache but worth it.

We really weren't expecting to move right now. We had just started thinking about moving, but weren't planning on doing anything until April or May. One afternoon I decided to see what was out there on KSL classifieds and found the listing. I emailed it to Patrick and asked him what he thought of the place. He liked it so much that he called the number, on the post, to see if we could take a look at it. Apparently the girl, Natalie, who posted it, had the post up for about 20 minutes when she got the call from Patrick. That means she had literally just posted it when I took a look at the ad. Fate? Divine Intervention? I don't know....all I know it that it was AWESOME!

Anyway, we took a look at it and fell in love. She handed us an application. We immediatly filled it out, submitted it and had the townhouse the next morning. It was about 12 hours between the time I looked a the ad and the time that we got the townhouse. We were really excited. The only problem was that it was a Thursday and Patrick was starting his new job on Monday. We pretty much had 72 hours to get moved in. That, my friends, was a nightmare. But again totally worth it.

I feel like an adult. Like a REAL adult. I know that's a weird thing to say when I've been married for over 5 years and have a daughter who is 4. (can you believe it?) but there is something about living in a 2 bedroom 1970's apartment for so long that makes you feel...BLAH. I don't think I can describe it, it's hard to explain a feeling.

Other than the move, life is progressing. I should, fingers crossed, be done with school in August. They finally posted the classes offered summer semester and I will be taking 2 courses. One the first half for 7 weeks and the other the second half for 7 weeks. It's a pretty awesome feeling to know that after so much hard work and with the support and love from family that we BOTH will have our degrees.

Audrey is doing great. She is learning so much and it seems as though she is on the verge of learning to read.
The other day she was sitting in the living room drawing in her book and she drew a picture of herself and then spelt her name. She then drew a picture of me and asked how to spell mommy. This was the conversation we had.
me: M-0-M-M-Y
audrey: W (draws an m)
me: no that's an M
audrey: yeah a W.
me: no that's an M. M-O-M.
Audrey: O (draws an o) W (draws an half m/half n shape) There!
The then shows me and Patrick her amazing accomplishment. We both congratulate her and hug her. She then goes back to drawing. A few minutes later she asks
Audrey: Daddy? is Daddy spelt with three y's?
At that point the two of us were in a conversation and weren't really paying attention and he says
Patrick: Uh? yeah.
A few minutes later Audrey comes running up and shows us a new drawing. It's a picture of patrick and underneath she has spelled daddy, at least the way she believes it's spelled after she sounded it out.
D-A-D-Y-A-Y-Y.
Seriously I can't believe that she is so CLOSE to reading. It's just so amazing to see her attempt to sound-out and spell a word. Just amazing.

We took advantage of the free funnix reading program that was being offered this past month. We are hoping to start her on the program soon. Now we just have to find the time. We'll make time - after all it's our child's reading future on the line.

I'll take some pictures of the new place and of the drawings.

Thanks for reading.

We did a move like that right before Christmas. We decided on Saturday to move and be out of our apartment by the next Wednesday! It was crazy. I had basketball practice everyday and games...Needless to say being pregnant and constantly working I didn't do much to help. We are living with Mark's parents while we are trying to buy a house/townhouse.

I feel the same way about being an adult. Being married five years, a child on the way and finally we are doing "adult, responsible" things.
